Learn Mandolin By Ear - Yankee Doodle [Beginner Lesson]
This video shows the process of picking out a familiar tune in an easy key (A) on the mandolin. Developing one's internal repertoire is a huge key of becoming fluent and paving the way towards improvising. We have to be able to play the music that is inside of us before we're really comfortable in a jam session.
Most folks know many tunes from hearing them for their whole lives, but not everyone focuses on learning to find them on the mandolin and picking them out note-by-note, phrase by phrase. This can be for many different reasons, but on this channel we encourage folks to cultivate a healthy discipline of doing this on a regular basis until one can easily and confidently pick simple tunes they know out in all different keys and octaves. This will help make a solid foundation for improvising and jamming.
