Safety Shift (control ISO, Aperture, or Shutter Speed to save images) - EOS R5 Tip 50
Since the beginning, Canon's digital cameras have included a feature called Safety Shift. When shooting in some auto exposure modes (Tv, Av, and P) this allows the camera to override your settings if the meter can't otherwise make a correct exposure.
For example, if you're shooting in Shutter priority (Tv), normally the camera can only change the aperture value and ISO (if auto ISO is enabled). But what happens when your lens is already wide open and the image would still be under-exposed? You get an under-exposed image. However, with Safety Shift enabled, the camera could slow your shutter speed to save that image.
Where this can be really beneficial is as a "replacement" for Auto ISO in some situations. Safety shift's ISO control is not limited to a minimum shutter speed of 1 second. It will allow the shutter speed to drop to 30 seconds before it starts adjusting the ISO to compensate.
