This is play dough, it is flexible because it can bend and twist in many ways without breaking. This is a popsicle stick, it is not flexible, it is rigid. You may be wondering why I'm talking about play dough and popsicle sticks during a growth mindset video. It's because the way that you think can also be described as flexible or rigid. Rigid thinking is when you tend to only think in one way, when you have a problem, you might get stuck if your original plan doesn't work. Flexible thinking, on the other hand, is when you can think in new and different ways. Flexible thinkers can shift and change so that they adapt to different circumstances. So, when your first attempt to solve a problem doesn't work, you can adjust your thinking to try something else. Or if someone sees something differently than you do, you can shift to be able to see their point of view. Being flexible is helpful to us in so many ways, it allows us to embrace challenges and be open to trying new things. It can also help us understand and get along better with others. Finally, in a world that's always changing, being a flexible thinker means that you can adapt more easily.
