The problem with PEMDAS

In this video I discuss my big issue with PEMDAS, namely that schools insist on teaching math with the outdated, and confusing division sign yet they don't discuss ways to make mathematical expressions more clear. Math is logical thinking applied to numbers which requires clarity of thought and expression. The division sign gets in the way of that. Our students need to be taught not only how to recognize and clarify the intent behind poorly written mathematical expressions but they should, more importantly, learn how avoid writing confusing expressions in the first place! Avoid the division sign and use parenthesis where needed for clarity.
