I Never Knew--Paul Whiteman and His Orch., 1920
Sorry for my long absence, which was unplanned. From 12/29/1920, a typically brilliant Ferde Grofe arrangement, complete with those wonderful Dixieland-style endings common to early PW sides. An exceptional song standard (subsequently recorded by nearly everyone on Earth), and "revised" by Paul Whiteman. And I suppose we'll never know what that meant. A quick Google check gave no clue re Whiteman's input, but maybe I'll run across a reference at some point.
