Today, 12th October 2020, is the 96th birthday of Smt. Kanika Bandyopadhyay, my grandaunt, who is Momol to me. My childhood memories of 'Anandadhara' residence was nothing special, just an extension of home. Living in the same compound, my earliest memories of her are having playtimes with and around her. I would ask for cream biscuits, make rotis and be very proud of that. She would try to teach me Rabindra Sangeet, and I will tell her about the latest film song that I liked. Sometimes, she would hum a line or two on my insistence. The house was full of treasures that I would explore everyday, little by little, each time I visit.
Only after I grew up, I realised how blessed was my childhood. I also realised that I had the privilege of learning the iconic song 'Anandadhara bahiche bhubane' from the icon, Kanika Bandyopadhyay herself!
I am dedicating this song, 'Amar sokol niye boshe achhi', to all those memories that I have of her. You will always be my icon and inspiration, Momol. Pronam.
