এই গানটা বরাবরই আমার খুব প্রিয়। সেই কারণেই এই নিয়ে কাজ শুরু করেছিলাম। কিন্তু আজ থেকে দুমাস আগেও যে অনুভূতি হয়েছে এ গান শুনে বা গেয়ে, সে বোধ—সে উপলব্ধি বদলে গেল যখন খুব দ্রুত কিছু অভিজ্ঞতার মধ্যে দিয়ে গেলাম। যে ভাবে, যে সাজে গানটাকে সাজাচ্ছিলাম, প্রিয়বিচ্ছেদের পর ফিরে এসে মনে হল এ তো যথেষ্ট নয়! এ গানের অন্তর্লীন বিষাদমধুর গভীরতা বা ব্যাপ্তিকে তো ছুঁতে পারছি না, প্রকাশ করতে পারছি না ভেতরের শূন্যতা আর তাকে ঘিরে সততই স্পন্দমান প্রকৃতির বেদনকে। যে রাগে আমার কাছে একসঙ্গে এই বিষণ্নমধুরের প্রকাশ, সেই তিলক কামোদ—বিষাদ পেরিয়ে, মাধুর্য্য পেরিয়ে হৃদয়ে স্থির হওয়ার যে সুর, তারই রেশ খুঁজছে মন।
স্বর্ণাভ আমার বন্ধু, খুবই গুণী শিল্পী। ওকে বললাম আমার এই ছড়ানো-ছিটানো ভাবনা, অনুভূতির কথা। কী করে জানি না, তারই প্রকাশ ও করল আশ্চর্য জাদুতে ওর সৃষ্ট মূর্ছনার মধ্যে। এ আমাদের শ্রদ্ধা, সন্তর্পণে ছোঁয়ার চেষ্টা বিশ্বপ্রকৃতির চিরকালীন রিক্ত করে ভরিয়ে তোলার খেলাকে। আমাদের ব্যথা, কান্না, আর্তি পেরিয়ে সেই গভীরের সুরটিতে একদিন যেন আমরা পৌঁছতে পারি।
I have loved this song for as long as I've known it, I think. No surprises, therefore, that I started working on it a few months ago. But experiences of the last couple of months seemed to have altered forever the way I perceived and performed this song. And with it, my thoughts around its 'presentation'. How do I reach the core of beauty and sadness of the song, or its expanse? How do I even begin to express the eternal rhythm of nature around the void within? I yearn for the heart of Tilak-Kamod, the raag that brings home the melancholic beauty of the song — to find the unwavering point that's beyond everyday joys or sorrows.
I tried to explain these scattered thoughts and ideas to Swarnabha, our friend and a talented musician. I'm not sure what and how he did, but he managed to translate the thoughts into a wondrous permutation of notes that moulded themselves around the words. This is a tribute, but also an attempt to get up close with nature's magical cycle of depletion and renewal. One day, perhaps, we will cross the sea of pain, grief and tears and touch that deepest of chords in the universe.
