This song was written in 1911, almost 110 years ago. But the message of this song is eternal. To some, it speaks about an inner spiritual liberation, being one with the nature and the greater forces of the Universe. To others, it may mean a call for not sitting idle, to come out of one’s shell, take initiatives, join hands with others in the battle that is going on all around us.
But when we chose this song, we also thought about testing the boundaries of our individual practices, stepping away from our own and stepping across each other’s domains, challenging ourselves too through the process.
In the end, we tried to create something that is respectful to the traditions, but also imbibes styles across genres and countries. With this song, we have tried to come out of our shells, play with the boundaries, and unite with the universal joy of music.
Swarnabha Gupta is a music producer/guitarist based in Pune. Trained in Hindusthani Classical Music by Shri Anil Baran Kar and Shri Subhranil Sarkar, Swarnabha has been working as a session artist and producer for quite a few years. He's also a part of Mumbai based Progressive Rock band ShredxXx and a producer for Kolkata based Hindi Rock band Riyaz.
We shot this music-video during my WFH-days in Santiniketan, Spring 2021.
For me it was a revisit to all the places that are special to me, in and around Santiniketan. I know all the bohemians, vagabond and 'fnaakibaaj' ex-students of Visva-Bharati will cherish this nostalgia... :-)
