Customizing the Quick Control Menu - EOS R5 Mark 2 Tip 20
In this video, I walk through how to customize the Quick Control (QC) menu on Canon’s R5 Mark II and R1 cameras—one of the most useful UI updates for photographers and videographers alike. Unlike older Canon cameras where the QC layout was fixed, these newer models allow for full customization, letting you tailor the QC menu to your specific shooting needs. I cover how to locate the customization settings, the differences between photo and video modes, and how to add, remove, and rearrange entries on the screen.
Each camera mode—photo, video, and custom modes (C1–C3)—can have its own independent QC layout. You can add up to 11 items per layout and choose from dozens of available functions like AF settings, exposure controls, picture profiles, or even audio settings in video mode. I also explain how to identify what each item does, how to navigate the layout using physical or touch controls, and what to do if you want to start fresh with a blank QC menu.
I also walk through the process of rearranging items using the Info button, and show how to save or discard your changes depending on your workflow. Whether you’re fine-tuning a minimalist setup or loading it with frequently adjusted features, this new flexibility makes it much easier to work quickly in the field.
Finally, I share how I’ve customized my own QC menu, highlighting which items I removed, which I added, and why. While this feature is a huge step forward, I also offer suggestions for improvement—like more menu options and the ability to also customize the detailed settings overlay. If you shoot with the R5 Mark II or R1, customizing your QC menu is a powerful way to streamline your setup.
