Zero2Sixty: Video Production Tips
This episode covers - a "how to" tutorial on how to use crossfade transitions in final cut pro (FCP) to smoothly blend your audio.
7 Steps to Use Crossfade for Blending Audios
We now know how much of a gem Crossfade audio transitions are, but how exactly do we use it? Here are the steps:
1. Open Final Cut Pro and bring your audio clips to your timeline.
2. Go to the Effects tab.
3. Click on Audio Transitions.
4. Select the connection between two clips.
5. Grab, drag, and drop your chosen audio transition from the Effects bin in to the audio connection. Currently, there are two audio transitions you can use:
0db—this offers a quick transition without any form of volume ramp and, therefore, is best used for audios with very subtle or no variation in tone, noise, or the like.
+3db—this transition will increase the volume by 3 decibel between your first and second clip, if needed. This is most useful for audio clips with very noticeable glitches like noise and file corruption issues.
6. Grab either end of the element and extend or retract the Transition's length to create a more dramatic or subtle shift in the audio content.
7.Your audio is now ready for use!
