On the 9th of this month, during my meet up with friend/fellow YouTuber, @eddierools (Eddie), we headed to Wye Bridge Hobbies in Oil City for the day. During the week of our meet up, our original plans were to visit a few layouts and run trains. Just before this however, we found that one of the layouts had recently encountered issues, and the owner of the second one would be out of the area that week. With both of those layouts no longer available, fellow hobbyist, @lasher9811 suggested I get in contact with Jesse at Wye Bridge Hobbies to inquired on possibly going up his way to run trains on his layout.
Eddie and I met Jesse at his hobby shop in the morning, and he basically gave us full access to the layout. I mostly had my American models, while Eddie was running all British and/or Thomas & Friends models. The size of the layout is great because it allows you to run longer trains, but there's also plenty of room to do switching as well. After the first hour or so, Eddie and I decided to start shooting some video footage for our channels. You'll notice in some cases that models will stutter and/or stop, and this is due to dirty tracks. As the part of the layout we were running on was recently landscaped, the tracks have not yet been properly cleaned.
The layout is replicated after part of the Western New York & Pennsylvania Railroad (WNYP), with the main focus being the wye bridge and roundhouse. This part of the layout is local to the area, and in fact is only just a short drive from the hobby shop. Sadly the roundhouse was torn down decades ago, and although the wye bridge is still standing, sadly as of February 2024 it is no longer an active line. The leg going off to the south of the bridge has been abandoned for at least 30-40 years I believe.
A lot of the layout is still under development, but Jesse does have hopes to have the bridge and surrounding area finished by June 2025. Plans are also to get the layout to where regular op sessions can be held there, and customers coming to the shop will be able to see the layout in operation. As it stands now, the layout is only end to end travel, with no method of turn around. Once all the track has been laid, there will be reverse loops at each end to turn entire trains around.
Lastly, I would like to give a big thanks to Jesse for letting Eddie and I come hang out at the shop for the day and operate on the layout. We had a great time running trains, in addition to walking around the shop and talking with Jesse while we were there. We also purchased a lot of great items that day as well.
