How Many Rods Is Too Many?

Most of my life, I have gone fishing with one or two rods.
Somehow, with my last couple of boats, that number has been steadily increasing. I thought I would be okay on my current boat with six rocket launchers to keep them out of the way.
Wrong. Lately, I have been carrying up to 8 rods when I go out.
