Project Zomboid has had a massive surge in popularity over the last couple of months and I figured now would be as good a time as any to dive into the games history and bring some newer players up to speed.

I honestly can’t think of a single game that has had as weird of an origin story as Project Zomboid. From stolen laptops, to car bombs, to payment lockouts; The Indie Stone has seen it all.

In the last few months alone the game has gone from 5000 concurrent players on Steam, to over 65000. This of course is all thanks to the release of multiplayer, and the addition of Louisville. (and a little help from the likes of Cyr, Sodapoppin, The Spiffing Brit, and more.)

However, the game has been in development for over 10 years now and a lot of interesting things have happened in that time that don’t get talked about anymore.

There were moments where it seemed like the project would be canceled, and there were moments where extreme amounts of progress were lost but thankfully the team persevered.

You’ve never seen a game development story quite like this one. Trust me.

The Indie Stone has single handedly managed to pull together the deepest zombie survival simulator in existence and they show no signs of letting up.

NPCS, Hunting, Roleplay, Expanded Multiplayer, and more are all still on the horizon.

…If anyone from The Indie Stone is reading this, please give me blacksmithing. I beg of you.

That’s probably enough keywords right?

Join me as I cover the twists and turns in this game's development cycle, while also talking about how impressive it is that the team is still going despite it all.

This is "The History of Project Zomboid".
