The black bear, also known as the American black bear, is one of the most common species of bear in North America. It is distinguished by its powerful build, medium size (adults usually weigh from 90 to 270 kg) and thick, most often black fur, although there are also individuals with a brown or even white color. Black bears are omnivores, their diet includes both plant food and meat, but they mainly feed on berries, nuts, insects and small mammals. Despite their impressive size, black bears tend to avoid people and are known for their cautious behavior. They climb trees well and can run short distances at a decent speed. In general, the black bear is a symbol of the wild nature of North America, found in forests, mountains and even near human habitation.
