Hello guys, welcome back to Car Obsession, and welcome to another 'Throwback Review' - I know it's been quite a long time since my last one. For those of you that are new to my channel, my throwback reviews are when I review cars from yesteryear.
Regular viewers will of course recognise the car featured this time around as it is of course, Monique, my very own Mk1 Mazda MX-5. Well, to be pedantic, Monique is actually a Eunos Roadster, meaning she was sold on the Japanese market. She was made in 1998, meaning she was one of the last of the first generation to roll of the production line, but was imported in to the UK in 2004.
This model is an S-Special II, so it offers a generous specification, including electric windows with Driver’s one touch function, central locking, power steering, Mazda Sensory Sound System, air conditioning, Momo steering wheel, 15” BBS Alloy wheels, limited slip differential, Bilstein shock absorbers, front strut brace and thicker anti-roll bars. Also on the S-Special II the ‘roadster’ badge was green to signify this model has the second version of the 1.8 litre engine – the models fitted with the first version were red.
Speaking of the engine, it offers 133bhp along with 114 lb ft of torque (155Nm), with power fed to the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox (a 4-speed auto was also available for the Mk1). 62mph is dealt with in just over 8 seconds, and the top speed is around 125mph.
