Russian Army - Combat Readiness Alert in Southern Military District
Russian army has put their forces in Southern Military District on high alert following escalation of hostilities between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Armenia and Azerbaijan are involved in an ongoing military conflict over an unrecognized republic of Nogorno-Karabakh, which is populated by Armenian majority but the territory is claimed by Azerbaijan. This conflict is considered a 'frozen' conflict with occasional armed flare-ups and a lack of international recognition for Nargorno-Karabakh republic.
Russia supports Armenia in this conflict, while Azerbaijan is supported by Turkey.
