A Royal Netherlands Army mobile artillery unit assigned to NATO’s enhanced Forward Presence Battlegroup in Lithuania conducting live fire exercises in June 2020. The Panzer Howitzer 2000-NL self-propelled guns were used to conduct a live-fire exercise at Pabradė Training Grounds alongside their Lithuanian troops. With their ability to “shoot and scoot” – conduct fire missions and then quickly move to cover – mobile artillery plays a crucial role in many Allied militaries. For this exercise, forward observers from Germany and Norway helped coordinate the strikes. Footage includes shots of Panzer Howitzers from the Netherlands and Lithuania loading, firing and moving.
2000-NL is a modification of the German Panzerhaubitze 2000. The PzH 2000 has automatic support for up to 5 rounds of Multiple Rounds Simultaneous Impact (MRSI). Two operators can load 60 shells and propelling charges in less than 12 minutes. In the video, loader is loading the artillery fuze and shell is being loaded by the autoloader. Main weapon is a Rheinmetall 155 mm 52-calibre gun.
