The topic for tonight was, “THIS PRESENT DARKNESS!”
● Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV) says, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
● The Eastern Standard Versions says, “this present darkness.” And the Amplified Bible says, “this [present] darkness,” just like other translations of the Bible, basically repeat the same thing. Yet, what was this darkness that the Apostle Paul was talking about?
● Many modern-day preachers still do not understand the idea that the scriptures were written in the first century and before. It seems that people just do not understand the importance of considering the context, the audience relevance, and the history of the time period these words were actually spoken.
● When you view the Bible as LITERAL, without realizing that the wording used in the English translation presents a false picture of what is real and true in the original language. We need to understand that “this present darkness” is not about some evil existing in this world, floating around in the atmosphere. It is not “demons” that possess people causing them to do a bunch of crazy things. Listen, the misinterpretation of word used in scripture and an understanding of the time period and bee at least two of the reasons people have been taught the Bible in error.
● Ephesians 6 is just one example of teaching that relates to a period of the transition between Law and Grace. But in no way was Paul referring to anything about our day and time. Therefore, the “principalities” refer to the authorities who led the teaching of the law of Moses, and they were those such as the Priests, the Pharisees, the Old Covenant authorities and so on.
