As the year's end approaches, the annual Lantern Rite is about to begin. As is customary, you and Paimon return to Liyue Harbor once again, and as expected, you encounter some familiar faces...
I was not expecting Moon Carver and Mountain Shaper to make an appearance in their human forms. That said, it is a bit sad they only have a an NPC form but with a different color palette, to make just a tad bit distinguishable. Still, it is nice to seem them again. A bit sad they left early, they should stayed and look around at least. They were never going to be playable, unlike Cloud Reatiner who had more relevance and were a lot more popular and had more appearances due to her connection with Ganyu, Shenye, and others. And giving them unique models would surely just give everyone false hope, which more often than not players tend to do already.
And we finally met Gaming. The man is just a really nice guy at heart, and I like his raspy voice and accent. Also, the latter knows how to handle Paimon lol.
That bit with Cloud Retainer reminds me whenever my mother and older sister would like to shop online, particularly with electronics. And I would have to step in to verify that the products they want is good enough and has an authorized store. Hits way too close to home.
Also, as someone who knows how to make kites albeit simple ones. I really appreciate what they are doing here in this Lantern Rite. Back when I was I kid, you could make kites with just a plastic bag and a hard broom for the frame. But even so, you could do a lot of designs with just a couple of plastic bags, the most common was the diamond shaped one, which you could add tail like wings on the side for aesthetics. It was pretty simple, but most people back then in my hometown pretty much did it, as we are near the harbor just like Liyue. The process of making the kite is just as important as playing with it.
Sorry for the short ramble there. I just remembered how my father's men would play with me in the afternoon, and we would build kites and play with them alongside our neighbors. It has been a while, and I'm not so sure if kites are still a thing in our hometown. Goodness, I sound like Zhongli with his osmanthus wine.
