From what I have gathered here, the title Dials refers to the navigation dials on a ship. More of that ocean fantasy theme from Elizabeth as she sings about a maiden longing for a loved one at sea. Very much a sister song to Mizake the Mizan and Song to the Siren with love and boats and the sea being the focus. This one was fun as I never tried to think of what she could be singing about for decades but after really listening, I came up with this basically by just sounding out the words as she sang them. So it is what it is. I liked the continuing theme of art titled Miranda: the Tempest from John Waterhouse whose work I used in Mud and Dark and Mizake the Mizan.
The audio is remastered from my own copy of the CD box set issue of the single in 1991.
