Light, bright decor with natural elements.
The couple, both around 35 years old, have two young children, aged 3 and 5, and two dogs. They approached the Beatriz Quinelato Arquitetura office to develop a project for a weekend and vacation home. The 170m² apartment in Riviera, on the coast of São Paulo, located facing the sea, holds strong sentimental value, especially for the husband, who grew up spending vacations in Riviera. They wanted their children to also grow up in this environment, which motivated the desire to create a comfortable and welcoming space where they could receive friends and enjoy moments of togetherness in a light, beachy atmosphere, without clichés.
The project included the creation of a bedroom for each child and a guest room, as the couple insisted on not having to move the children when receiving visitors. One of their requests was a large and comfortable sofa so that the whole family, including the dogs, could sit comfortably. The renovation consisted of integrating the living room with the balcony, removing a window frame that previously separated the spaces. The electrical and plumbing systems didn't require major alterations, only minor adjustments such as adding new faucets and outlets, as well as automation.
The inspiration for the project was to create a light and airy décor, making the most of natural light and incorporating natural elements typical of a beach house. The key point of the project was the kitchen, which presented a challenge due to the position of the main entrance door, which opens directly into this space. To resolve this issue, all appliances were built-in, such as refrigerators, dishwasher, and range hood, creating a more harmonious aesthetic. The careful selection of materials also brought charm to the environment, and from the kitchen, the project concept was extended to the other rooms.
Some original aspects of the property, such as the bathrooms, were maintained, only with the addition of cabinetry and decoration. The biggest difficulty encountered was related to the condominium regulations, which prohibited the modification of the existing tiles on the balcony, preventing a broader integration between the living room and the outdoor area. This limited the continuity of some design elements, such as the TV panel and the stone wall behind the sofa, extending to the balcony edge. However, the furniture was carefully chosen to minimize these obstacles and bring unity to the design, even with the imposed limitations.
