You can also use offline playback, which allows you to temporarily save videos to your smartphone and enjoy them in places with no signal or when you're out of range.
If you download videos to your home Wi-Fi in advance, you can conveniently watch them even when you're out of range or in flight mode.
I found offline playback extremely useful during long plane flights.

How long is the YouTube Premium free trial period?
You can check this under Purchases and Memberships in the settings on your YouTube My Page.
The free trial period is not monthly, but lasts approximately 90 days from the start of subscription. After that, you'll be charged a monthly fee.
To play offline, tap the offline button on the video you want to watch.
Select the video quality and tap Save.
Saved videos can be viewed offline from your My Page.
Smart Download and Download Recommended Videos use up your smartphone's storage space, so it's recommended that you turn them off.
Background playback is also enabled, so try closing the YouTube app or opening another app while a video is playing.
If you don't like YouTube Premium, cancel it before the free trial ends. It would be a waste to be charged.
To cancel, open Google Play on Android, go to the Account menu, go to Billing & Subscriptions, and tap Subscriptions.
Check the scheduled payment date for YouTube Premium and tap it.
Tap Cancel Subscription at the bottom of the screen.
Answer the survey and tap Next.
Check the cancellation notes and tap Cancel Subscription to cancel YouTube Premium.
You can avoid being charged.
