Spragga Benz ~ Hot Gal
Carlton Grant was born in Kingston, Jamaica on May 30th 1969. His DJ name comes from him being known as Spaghetti that evolved into Spragga and while working for La Benz sound system, he recorded, `The Ruler'. This was an original dubplate recorded alongside Buju Banton and Wayne Wonder leading to him being known as Spragga Benz.
This led to numerous sessions for a series of producers, including Bobby Digital, Winston Riley and Steely & Clevie. Following the release of his debut album, `Jack It Up,' Capitol Records signed him to record his second album, `Uncommonly Smooth'. The album featured `A1 Lover'', with Chevelle Franklyn and `Spanish Harlem' with Ben E. King.
While a popular release the corporation decided the sales figures weren't sufficient to warrant a follow up. However, he released a series of successful singles in Jamaica as well as recording with Wyclef Jean and KRS-One.
In 1999, he recorded an album with Beenie Man, Two Badd DJs. At this time he also topped the Jamaican charts with "She Nuh Ready Yet', which featured on his third album, `Fully Loaded'. The album also featured duets with Lady Saw, `Backshot' and Foxy Brown `Too Stoosh'.
In 2003 he recorded further duets working alongside Carly Simon and Kevin Lyttle in the hope of of breaking into the US market. In July 2007 he additionally presented the Urban Music Awards in New York with Foxy Brown.
