Here are 15 LONG riffs - 8 measures long each, to be exact - that fit over a circle of fifths chord progression like the one at the beginning of "Autumn Leaves".
These jazz licks are meant to give you some new ideas for how to approach 4-mallet jazz playing. I try to do what pianists do - which means interjecting chords in between the melodic lines. This can be challenging on the vibes, and I thought it would be fun to create some riffs to really focus on it.
Each of these riffs is unique in it's own way - there are some that really lay in hard on the bebop language, others that focus more on the chordal textures. There are also a few riffs that go "out" a bit, hehe.
Actually, after I finished recording all of these I started improvising over the same chord progression and out came all sorts of weird stuff I had never played before.... so hopefully that will happen to you too when you practice these!
