WHAT I LEARNED FROM BEING A MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHER
I have been teaching middle school for 7 years (3 years with 7th grade, 4 years with 8th grade). In that time, I have made a lot of mistakes, planned and replanned plenty of lessons, came in early for the meetings, stayed late for the paperwork, and grinded through the school days with effort and heart. There's a lot they don't teach you about becoming a teacher, and after 7 years I've found that it's not because schools aren't aware of everything you need to know about this lifestyle. It's because they just can't. And some lessons are only taught as a lived experience. This year, I accepted a transfer to our local high school, and as I make the transition from middle school to high school, it was really important to decompress.
