5:35 PM - A 65 year old driver is thankful to not have been seriously injured after his vehicle left the road at 79th and Meridian, travelled approximately 500 feet through a wooded area, hit 2 trees and landed wheels down, in Williams creek near the bridge. #IFD firefighters arrived on scene, originally dispatched as a vehicle accident with possible entrapment and requested Water Rescue Task Force 14 & 7.
On arrival, the task force secured the vehicle with a tether to keep it from moving downstream in the swift current. The driver of the car was alert and oriented. Within 10 minutes of arrival, divers had the victim out of the vehicle, onto a stokes basket and carried up the hill through the woods, to awaiting medics. He was transported to St. Vincent in stable condition by #IEMS. Witnesses tell firefighters he was travelling at a high rate of speed before leaving the road. #IMPD investigating.
