Here's my take on Irving Berlin's 'Blue Skies', recorded live at Mr. Vain. / mrvainbrisbane
'Blue Skies' was written by Berlin in 1926 as a last-minute addition to the Rodgers and Hart musical 'Betsy'. The song was an instant hit; on its opening night, the audience demanded some 24 encores! The next year, it became one of the first songs to be featured in a 'talkie', with Al Jolson performing it in 'The Jazz Singer'.
It has also been sung by Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Fred Astaire, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Diana Krall, Doris Day, Josephine Baker, Jo Stafford, Dinah Washington, Mel Tormé, Johnny Hartman, Bobby Darin, Keely Smith, Rosemary Clooney, Helen Merrill, and many others.
