In this video, we get into a narrower whitewater kayaking discipline: creeking! Creeks are often fed by rainfall, and not always running. For this reason, creeking requires a degree of rain-chasing and weather reading. Creeking often requires more scouting, because wood and other hazards can appear during the rainfall required to get the run going. Additionally, creeks often feature more gradient and trickier moves, so typically this isn't a beginner discipline.
In the case of urban creeks like Rock Creek, found right in DC, water quality is often terrible. Be sure to wear nose plugs, ear plugs, and shower off/clean your gear. Urban drainages often leech groundwater and sewage, making the water fairly disgusting. Be sure to think about this as part of your risk profile.
