Israeli experts are presently scrutinizing the legitimacy of documents leaked by an Iranian hacker group, as per Channel 12's report on Thursday. The hackers allege to have infiltrated the Dimona nuclear facility in the Negev desert and purport to have seized thousands of PDF documents, encompassing invoices, email exchanges, Excel spreadsheets, Word files, and PowerPoint presentations. Specifics of the initial report remain subject to Israeli government censorship.
According to Israel’s CheckPoint Software, the hackers' tactics align with past Iranian cyber assaults, characterized by the release of a menacing video heralding a successful breach aimed at instilling fear.
The hackers have issued a warning, asserting that Dimona and Yeruham, a nearby town, must be evacuated as they purportedly have control, as reported by Channel 12.
However, cybersecurity experts interviewed by the channel have labeled these claims as hyperbolic, suggesting that thus far, the hackers likely only accessed non-classified documents, if anything.
