In today’s experiment we will see how an iron wire bleeds. For this we need two chemicals - Ammonium Thiocyanate, Nitric Acid, ordinary IRON wire, empty beaker and a glass of water. Place some crystals of Ammonium Thiocyanate in the empty beaker. Add water and keep stirring to prepare a clean and saturated solution of Ammonium Thiocyanate. Place some Nitric Acid in the right hand beaker. First place the iron wire in the Ammonium Thiocyanate solution. On adding a few drops of Nitric Acid you will see BLOOD red color leach out from the iron wire. This chemical reaction can aptly be called as BLEEDING OF IRON WIRE. The complex reaction between Thiocyanate and Iron leads to this beautiful RED color.
