Stroop Test | Hindi
Hi! My name is Rick Hall. I am the founder of a company called IGNITE, based in Nottingham, England. We try to get more creativity in science lessons in schools. I have been doing some experiment at the IUCAA Science Center in Pune, India. This experiment is all about how our mind works. It is called the STROOP TEST. It is quite a famous experiment. It is used to test how well our brains are working. Sometimes when we suffer a brain injury, a stroke or if there is some other problem with our brain then you can use the STROOP TEST to find out what the problem is. The STROOP TEST consists of a whole list of words – which happen to be colors. The Words are all in different colors. The challenge for you is to read the WORD – not the word itself, but tell its color. So, as you can see there are lots of different Words in lots of different colors. All we need is to read aloud the COLOR of the words, and not the words themselves. This row for example will be YELLOW, GREEN, BLUE, PURPLE and BLUE. This is what the colors of the letters are. Now start from the TOP and see how long it takes you to get to the bottom. RED, PURPLE, GREEN, YELLOW, BLUE. Now off you go. Some people will find it quite a struggle. They will feel that there is a total war going on in their brains. This is because the part of the brain which deals with WORDS is not at the same place as the part of the brain which looks after COLORS. But because of our dominant use of LANGUAGE the brain tries of drag us back what the words says rather than the colors of the letters. This is the STROOP TEST taken by a few school girls. It is used by doctors when a patient has had a head injury. We will try with all of you and we’ll see who gets to the bottom first. Here you GO. The girl’s performance has been EXCELLENT!
