DROP BY DROP
This is a very exciting science model using very simple materials. You will need two plastic bottle, stiff straws, rubber glue and cello-tape. Stick two bottle lids back-to-back with rubber glue. Tape the joints to make it strong. Make two small holes in the twin-lids. Insert stiff fruit juice straws 5-cm long in the holes. Fill one bottle to the top with Kerosene. In India Kerosene is colored blue. Fill the other bottle with ordinary tap water. Screw the twin-lid tightly on the Kerosene bottle. Upturn the Kerosene bottle and screw it on the water bottle.
Now invert the bottles so with the Kerosene bottle below and the Water bottle above. See what happens? Kerosene being lighter than water its drops will rise above. Water being heavier than Kerosene its drops will fall below. Slowly you will see a small layer of Kerosene on the top bottle and a layer of water in the lower bottle. It’s a wonderful sight to behold.
Repeat this experiment with cooking oil and water. Cooking oil being lighter its drops will rise up and water drops being heavier will fall below.
