Flap books are a fun way to keep kids engaged while reading and can help you assess comprehension. Fold a piece of paper horizontally and cut four flaps. Label four sticky notes the following way: First, next, then and last. Before reading, tell your child to search for the events during reading. Encourage your child to mark the text with the notes while reading. Afterward, have your child illustrate and/or write about the events under the corresponding flaps. Ask your child to retell the story by using their flap book.
