Story Elements Organizer: Characters, Setting, Problem and Solution
Sticky notes are a fun and colorful tool to engage children before, during and after stories. Place four sticky notes on a piece of paper. Label them the following way: characters, setting, problem and solution. Before reading, tell your child to search for the events during reading. Encourage your child to mark the text with the notes while reading. Afterward, have your child illustrate and/or write about the elements in the corresponding squares. Ask your child to retell the story by using their sticky notes as prompts.
