The Pace Report: "From The Almighty" The Isaiah Collier Interview
Welcome to this special edition of The Pace Report live from the 2024 Charlie Parker Jazz Festival at Marcus Garvey Park in Harlem.
Saxophonist and historian Isaiah Collier has been on the frontlines playing music connected to the ancestors but has used the music to heal and unite music fans worldwide. Isaiah Collier & The Chosen Few's latest offering "The Almighty" pays tribute to one of his heroes, Pharoah Sanders, and showcases his expansion as a composer and bandleader.
The 25-year-old grew up on the south side of Chicago and began playing when he was 11. He graduated from West Town's Chi-Arts High School and the Jazz Institute of Chicago. Isaiah was also a Luminarts Fellow at the Chicago-based AACM(Association For The Advancement Of Creative Musicians).
In this edition of The Pace Report, you'll see highlights from Isaiah Collier & The Chosen Few perform music from his fourth album "The Almighty." We sit down and reflect on his musical development while growing up in Chicago, why Chicago is steeped with a rich legacy of tenor saxophonists, and his concept of composing and writing.
