In this video we test out some colors with our homemade soap. Looking to add some flash to the bars. This is a very simple recipe and creates a softer feeling soap.

www.thesage.com to find the lye calculator that we use.

600g Lard
400g Coconut Oil
147g LYE (sodium hydroxide)
300g (ml) of distilled water

Use a GLASS or STAINLESS container to mix the LYE solution. Start by adding the 300g (ml) of distilled water to the jar / container. Then add the LYE to the water. This is very important. We do not want anyone getting hurt making soap, so please wear protective gear while mixing the solution. Mix in a very well ventilated area, preferably outside with the wind behind you and blowing towards the container to keep any chemical, etc blowing away from you! This solution is going to get VERY hot. Use caution for the heat as well!.

once the solution clears, and the temperature gets closer to 115* F or so, it is the proper temperature to add to the fats / oils.

The ideal temperature for us to make soap, are temperatures of BOTH the fats / oils and the LYE solutions is between 105 - 120* F. We try and make them both within 5* F of each other and as close to 110* F as we can get them.

Mix well, you will see the fats / oil and the lye solution go from a clear-ish consistency to a milky white consistency. Continue to mix until you have a light trace, where the soap leave a slight trace of the path of the spoon / blender etc. at this point add in your scents and mix again. when you have a stiff trace, you are ready to start pouring in the molds.

once in the molds, leave them for about 2 days. remove from the molds and let cure for at least 1 week with really good airflow. we place our soaps in a bin that allows them to cure for a further 2-4 weeks before we use them.
