Making your own club-ready edits and remixes of well known tracks is a great way to give your listeners something they recognise, while injecting your own production personality into mixes and performances. In this FaderPro Track Deconstruction, George Smeddles walks us through how he put together his Mix of Indeep’s "Last Night a DJ Saved my Life." The course covers layering drums, bolstering out the low end to match today’s productions, editing vocals, and how to approach remixing tracks as iconic as this one.
In just over five years, George Smeddles has proven himself to be capable of delivering consistently high quality tech house cuts, via a number of the most formidable labels in the scene including Ultra, Defected, and Kookoo Records. Over the relatively short span of his blossoming career, George has secured sets at some of the most electric clubs in Europe, including a residency at Egg London, which gave him a regular opportunity to test out works in progress for their effectiveness on the dance floor.
Over the course of seven chapters, George shares an in-depth account of how he put a modern touch on this 80s classic to bring it up to the present day. From entering a creative mindset to workflow tips, as well as layering and mixing techniques, this course is packed with all the information you need to quickly and effectively create your own remixes and edits of your favorite tracks.
In this Track Deconstruction, George works within his usual DAW, Logic Pro, but much of the course focuses on techniques and concepts that are relevant to any DAW. He sticks to his less is more approach when it comes to using third party plugins too, as he achieves the majority of his sound using Logic Pro’s stock effects. He does, however, opt to bring a select few devices out of his plugin folder, including Xfer’s LFO Tool and Soundtoys’ Decapitator.
With seven chapters covering the various skills and abilities used when creating infectious house music, this Track Deconstruction is a must watch for anyone wanting to brush up on their studio skills.
