The HDR Look filter delivers the style and feel commonly associated with HDR photos. This filter is primarily about tone compression and detail enhancement. The detail accentuation is different than other tools in ON1 Effects, so they are worth knowing about.
It is also important to understand that the HDR Look filter is a look … it is not doing an HDR merge of multiple bracketed exposures. Where a proper HDR merge delivers more shadow and highlight data for post-processing, the HDR Look filter will not magically recover clipped highlights or shadows from a single exposure. The filter creates a look similar to an HDR merged image.
