Does Zenitsu Have A Split Personality or Is Zenitsu Sleep Walking? | Demon Slayer
Does Zenitsu have a split personality?
No.
He's one of Demon Slayer's breakout characters with one unique characteristic.
When he is overwhelmed, Zenitsu falls asleep, and all of his years of training take into effect. His eyes turn white, there's static in the air, and he becomes a mighty demon slayer.
His miraculous transformation and others like it interest me.
I believe Zenitsu is sleep walking.
He looks more like the Pokémon, Komala, whose ability allows it to attack during sleep.
Not like Cavendish, for example, a One Piece character who suffers from a genuine split personality.
Who's alter ego Hakubo takes over to slash wreak havoc when Cavendish is incapacitated.
Split personalities have some underpinnings in reality.
Dissociative identity disorder is a coping mechanism for trauma. Where a person retreats within themselves to allow a protector or more dominant alter ego to take over.
That's the notecard version of this, it's way more intricate, but you've seen a condensed and lightly treated version of it in media before.
The Zenitsu Agatsuma sleep walking shift from coward to hero doesn't show the signs of two separate personalities symbiotically working together.
The car is on auto-pilot; instead of someone else taking over the wheel.
He moves at what seems primarily instinct; going on autopilot and reverts to his training.
It's that lack of a dominant personality that makes a case more for sleepwalking, or I guess sleep battling.
So can zenitsu fight while awake? I'm interested in finding out some day.
Which isn't a bad thing story-wise, because eventually, this adds to his character as Zenitsu progresses; to blend his instincts with his conscious self.
