His name loosely translates into "to walk through shadow, eternal darkness."
Tokoyami's appearance and name all point to the nature of Tokoyami's quirk, Dark Shadow.
A sentient shadow projecting from Tokayami's navel acts as a partner, weapon, and living appendage.
The Dark Shadow quirk is as ever-changing as the moon as it goes through phases.

Humans fear what the darkness holds. It makes us feel vulnerable.
While encompassing his namesake, quirk, and interest, Tokoyami's design is well done. It's simple while also being functional.
Both in power and appearance, Tokoyami Fumikage revels in the darkness.
