Ever wondered why you hear thunder after seeing lightning?

Lightning is a spark of electricity, also known as a discharge of energy between the ground and the cloud or between clouds. We see lightning before we hear thunder because light travels faster than sound. Lightning heats the air around it at such a rapid rate, that the air expands and makes a shock wave in the air. That crack noise of the shock wave is thunder.
