woodturning a spalted birch hollow form with lid
I made a spalted birch hollow form with a cherry wood lid and a holly finial.
I first attached the birch wood to a faceplate on the lathe and turned it and for hollowing it out I glued a plywood tenon on it and attached it to the chuck and hollowed it out and finished it.
I glued the cherry wood for the lid to a glue block on a faceplate and turned a tenon to the wood in this way, I placed this tenon in a chuck and turned the bottom in this way and later reverse mounted it on a small chuck and turned and finished the top of the lid.
For the finial I first mounted the holly between the centers and turned it into a cylinder and then placed it in a chuck and turned and finished it.
All parts were finished with friction polish.
The hollow form of birch wood has a diameter of 16 centimeters and is 11 centimeters high, the lid of cherry wood has a diameter of 7 and a half centimeters and is 2 centimeters high and the finial of holly has a diameter of 2 and a half centimeters and is 7 centimeters high.
