This is a basic structure break for Kote Gaeshi, Shiho Nage and some forms of Kokyu Nage. Done correctly it requires little force and it should not cause pain. The structure break causes Uke to fall by creating reflexes that get Uke to fall. It feels very natural. Uke does not take Ukemi to escape the pain. The wrist, arm or shoulder should not be injured no matter what. Injury might come from from explosive speed in the technique or the sudden stop hitting the floor but practice should be safe.
These techniques look very simple and in a sense they are, but they are not easy to learn. When doing these Nage barely touches Uke and the throws seem like magic. Most people explain them in magical terms but we think it is better to describe them as reflex control. Because the people learning the technique cannot feel what is making them fall it is difficult to learn. If you have a partner and you are trying to learn to do these feel free to contact me at the email address below. At this time I will be happy to work with you.
