In the last few months we have been experimenting with doing Irimi Nage, Kokyu Nage, and Tenshi Nage by getting Uke's head to reflex back rather than striking Uke. We already use a basic structure break rather than joint locks for many techniques and we use Leading rather than parrying to avoid attacks. This gives a very soft Aikido. Here we are getting Uke's head to reflex back rather than striking Uke. This involves using very little force to throw Uke.
These techniques look very simple and in a sense they are, but they are not easy to learn. When doing these Nage barely touches Uke and the throws seem like magic. Most people explain them in magical terms but we think it is better to describe them as reflex control. Because the people learning the technique cannot feel what is making them fall it is difficult to learn. If you have a partner and you are trying to learn to do these feel free to contact me at the email address below. At this time I will be happy to work with you.
