Explorator chirper - Test Installation Footage from Autumn 2020 - Damaged Audio =(
Documentation footage of the Explorator chirper soundscape augmentation artefact installed in the Sierra Nevada foothills near Grass Valley, California on October 4th, 2020. These unedited video clips were collected during initial in-situ testing of the artefact. There was a problem recording audio this day and the resulting footage has had significant noise reduction applied to remove a loud hiss from a fault microphone preamp. In the footage the artefact reacts to environmental conditions including ambient light levels, temperature, and humidity. Furthermore, the artefact's vocalisations are triggered by events in the in-situ sonic environment where the artefact conducts onset detection and pitch extraction in an attempt to match its vocalisations with the sounds it hears.
For this test pop-up exhibit, the artefact was installed for several hours and closely observed. Several locations were tested for the artefact this day. The artefact provides periods of silence so visitors have time and space to listen to the sounds present.
