This video sort of shows how you can use an alternative USB webcam for recording a video in Quicktime Player for a Mac.
1. first open quicktime player from applications
2. then, make sure your usb webcam is installed (i.e. plug it in). I had a rocketfish webcam 720p (from best buy).
3. finally, go to the top and click on "File", then "New Movie Recording"
4. When the window opens.. it should default to display your built in isight webcam.
5. click on the quicktime session or move the mouse until you see the red record button... next to it is a down arrow. This is the settings.
6. Click the down arrow that's next to the record red icon at the middle bottom of the screen.
7. From settings you can select a different webcam. Surprisingly... i selected "Rocketfish HD Webcam Pro"...
it did nothing
For some reason this webcam is broken and doesn't work with quicktime player to record videos.
