With goals of delivering a venue to encourage healthy lives, community fellowship, and cultural and historical preservation, ISG is working with the Meskwaki Nation to design a recreation center that directly supports community needs.
Opportunity
ISG is partnering with the Meskwaki Nation to design the community’s new recreation center. With a unique opportunity to grow, harmonize, create exposure, and maximize its culture and heritage while positively benefiting the community, it’s vital that the future facility’s design is informed by the experiences and perspectives of the community.
Solution
ISG is working with the Meskwaki Nation to design a recreation center that will encourage health and wellness and provide spaces for community groups to gather. Some key goals and amenities for this facility include a fieldhouse, wellness center, indoor walking track, locker rooms, licensed daycare facility, youth programming, multi-purpose rooms, and a teaching kitchen.
Community engagement is a vital component in the process for this project. The project team has developed a number of marketing and communications deliverables to full engage all members of the community in the design process. ISG and the Construction Committee have been working with a number of groups to determine the scope of the project and develop preliminary design concepts based on how each end user can benefit from the facility. From facilities and public works staff to seniors, youth programs, and the Tribal Council, the team has been proactive in ensuring the facility meets a wide range of community needs.
