As climate anxiety grows, young people around the world are urgently demanding action from global leaders. As disasters are becoming more frequent, the youth is losing patience with the apathy and are calling for significant change. 60% of young people report feeling 'very or extremely worried' about the future, as the impact of climate change becomes impossible to ignore. 🌍 Disasters damaged or destroyed more than half a million schools between 2015 and 2021.

Sarah Baharaki, Global Youth Ambassador, emphasizes the need for immediate action: "For us young generation, we do not wait for the right time. We create the right time to act and bring changes that we want to see in our societies." ✊

Their call is for a shift in global mindset—one that fosters cooperation over competition, and mutual respect over exploitation. 🤝 UN Secretary-General António Guterres acknowledges this urgency, recognizing the essential role of young voices in shaping the future: "I salute young people around the world for standing up, speaking out, and working for real change. We need you."

The upcoming Summit of the Future represents a critical opportunity for leaders to involve young people in decision-making, increase funding for youth initiatives, and bridge generational divides. The question remains: Will leaders offer young people a seat at the table? 🪑

About UNDRR:
The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) has a big ambition: to help decision-makers across the globe better understand and act on risk. At UNDRR, we believe there is no such thing as a natural disaster. A natural hazard, such as a hurricane, earthquake, tsunami, or flood, only becomes a disaster when it impacts a community that is not adequately protected and whose population is vulnerable as a result of poverty, exclusion, or social disadvantage. We envision a world where disasters no longer threaten the well-being of people and the future of the planet. Sustainable development and the 2030 Agenda cannot be achieved without working towards the goal of building resilience.
