Hi I'm Pauline Fleming, Chief Inspiration Officer of Leaders Who Care. We provide business coaching, training, mentoring & leadership development services for entrepreneurs, executives & business owners.
Today, let's talk about nightmare clients.
No matter what you do, they are constantly in your head and stressing you. They keep you up at night, you dread interacting with them and you don't enjoy having them as customers.
If this sounds like you, you can apply the 80/20 Pareto principle to this scenario. Look at your bottom 20% customers, the ones you least enjoy. Then look at your top 20% percent, the ones you love working with. What's different? The bottom 20% are going to be your nightmare clients; the kind that just gnaw at you. Having these clients actually costs you - not only for the time that you spend on them, but the time and resources that you can't put toward your top customers, or toward new customers. They prevent you from having the time to bring in any new customers.
Now look at your top 20% customers and see what joy you have from them. Imagine having 80% of your business come from these clients? Guess what? 80% of your business typically does come from your top 20% of your customers...I encourage you to do the math, check it out, and see the reality of this. Realizing this will free you up to actually let go of your bottom 20%.
Every year take a good look at measuring where your clients are coming from, how they are producing for you and start letting go of the bottom 20% nightmare clients. You'll sleep better at night and you'll attract ideal clients that make your heart sing rather than nightmare clients that make your heart sink. I wish you all the best in attracting great "heart sing" clients.
