Hi I'm Pauline Fleming, Chief Inspiration Officer of Leaders Who Care. We provide business coaching, training, mentoring & leadership development services for entrepreneurs, executives & business owners.

Let's talk about your calendar.

Do you look at it strategically, mapping it out a week, month, and year at a time? Do you fill it in as events and obligations arise? Maybe you have a mix of both approaches - adding standing engagements first but allowing the rest to fill as it may.

At Leaders Who Care, we thrive when we plan our calendar a year in advance. Sure, things come up, but we know that we have a structure for the twelve months ahead and we know this boosts our productivity and success.

Want to be inspired to create a calendar that will guide through 2014? Spend a morning doing just that.

Yes, it is possible to create a workable, supportive calendar for the year ahead, but here's a way to take that in bite-sized pieces:

Schedule the book club before you schedule the bookkeeping.

Whatever makes you passionate, whatever feeds your mind, heart, and soul — put it first. Your book club or your fitness class or your date night might seem less important than those essential tasks (like monitoring bank accounts or returning client emails immediately), but that isn't necessarily the case.

You cannot take care of your business, your clients, your team, or rest of the people in your life if you do not first tend to the things that make you feel healthy and fulfilled.

At some level, you likely know this, but it can be difficult to put it into practice.
That's why I advise you not only to mentally put "first things first," but to actually schedule these personal priorities first.
